On August 30th, the “Maritime Guangdong Young Director Support Program” (“the Maritime Guangdong Program”), organized by Yangcheng Evening News Group, will enter the American Film Institute (AFI) to h大型公仔ost the US stop of the program’s 2025 Global Road show. The screening will feature three short films from the program—”Migratory Bird,” “How Can I Rid My Mind of Her,” and “Hi, Marilyn”—along with one feature filmset in Guangzhou, “All About ING,” offering American audiences an immersive cinematic experience of stories from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
AFI, as one of the top film schools in the United States, is renowned for its rigorous admission standards and intensive training programs, making it a dream destination for many filmmakers.
Among the Top 20 of the 2025 Maritime Guangdong Program, directors Chen Danting and Lu Xinhao both come from AFI. Chen had aspired to be a film director since high school. She admitted that she applied to AFI twice and eventually studied under mentors with diverse styles. With guidance from different teaching methods, she not only strengthened her storytelling but also expanded her creative expression. During her year in the United States, she completed two short films set in her hometown of Southwest China’s Yunnan province.
Switching from finance to filmmaking, Lu Xinhaowas influenced by his film-enthusiast father and watched countless films gro策展wing up. He admitted that changing disciplines was 經典大圖a major challenge, and at first, he struggled with limited connections. However, at AFI, he quickly met many like-minded peers, including cinema to graphers who assisted in his shoots. His project “Going to School,” which was submitted to the Maritime Guangdong Program, received strong support from several AFI schoolmates.

Lu Xinhao’s short film, selected for support by the M包裝盒aritime Guangdong Program, recently began shooting in Zhongshan, Guangdong. The project received 70,000 yuan in funding from Yangcheng Evening News Group, along with equipment, post-production, and promotional support. He also recommended the program to his AFI alumni, “The Maritime Guangdong Program is a very pure film project. I look forward to more screenings in Americain the f展覽策劃uture, so that more people will learn about the program and join it.”
The Maritime Guangdong Program, hosted b參展y Yangcheng Evening News Group, is a large-scale talent support initiative aimed at discovering, nurturing, selecting, and training outstanding young Chinese directorsworldwide. Based in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, it seeks emerging creative voices in global filmmaking, supporting their exploration of various short film genres such as narrative, documentary, and animation.
